Abuse

What counsel forbids physical or verbal spouse abuse? It's in the Bible, Colossians 3:19, NIV. "Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them."

God forbids incest. It's in the Bible, Leviticus 18:6, NIV. "No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations."

Violence is a characteristic of the unfaithful. It's in the Bible, Proverbs 13:2, NIV. "From the fruit of his lips a man enjoys good things, but the unfaithful have a craving for violence."

Violent persons are not to be admired. It's in the Bible, Proverbs 3:31, NIV. "Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways."

Persons given to verbal abuse reveal their true selves. It's in the Bible, Proverbs 13:3, NIV. "He who guards his lips guards his soul, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin."

Comfort for abuse victims. It's in the Bible, Psalm 91:1-16, TLB. "We live within the shadow of the Almighty, sheltered by the God who is above all gods. This I declare, that He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I am trusting Him. For He rescues you from every trap and protects you from the fatal plague. He will shield you with His wings! They will shelter you.

His faithful promises are your armor. Now you don't need to be afraid of the dark any more, nor fear the dangers of the day; nor dread the plagues of darkness, nor disasters in the morning. Though a thousand fall at my side, though ten thousand are dying around me, the evil will not touch me. I will see how the wicked are punished but I will not share it. For Jehovah is my refuge!

I choose the God above all gods to shelter me. How then can evil overtake me or any plague come near? For He orders his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will steady you with their hands to keep you from stumbling against the rocks on the trail. You can safely meet a lion or step on poisonous snakes, yes, even trample them beneath your feet!

For the Lord says, 'Because he loves me, I will rescue him; I will make him great because he trusts in My name. When he calls on Me I will answer; I will be with him in trouble, and rescue him and honor him. I will satisfy him with a full life and give him My salvation.'"

God loves abused victims. It's in the Bible, Romans 5:5, TLB. "Then, when that happens, we are able to hold our heads high no matter what happens and know that all is well, for we know how dearly God loves us, and we feel this warm love everywhere within us because God has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love."

Eventually abusers will get their due. It's in the Bible, Psalm 60:11-12, TLB. "Yes, Lord, help us against our enemies, for man's help is useless. With God's help we shall do mighty things, for He will trample down our foes."

We are promised safety and sleep without fear. It's in the Bible, Proverbs 3:21-24, TLB. "Have two goals: wisdom—that is, knowing and doing right—and common sense. Don't let them slip away, for they fill you with living energy and are a feather in your cap. They keep you safe from defeat and disaster and from stumbling off the trail. With them on guard you can sleep without fear; you need not be afraid of disaster or the plots of wicked men, for the Lord is with you; He protects you."
